TERMS FOR WEBSITE DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Before work starts:

A project specification is agreed between us before work on a project starts. If I provide you with an estimate for the project before a full specification is provided, it will be subject to revision once the full specification has been agreed.

A full specification would usually include details of the number of pages, their content and any functionality and design features.

Payments and deposits:

Once the proposal has been accepted, a payment of 1/3 of the total project costs is required before work can start. At this time, payment for hosting and domain costs may also be required.

If the project timeframe exceeds one month, a further payment of 33% of the total project cost will be required at the design sign-off stage. The final outstanding balance will be due upon completion of my involvement in the work.

Please note that control of the website will not be released to you until payment has been received.

You also agree to reimburse me any additional expenses necessary for the creation of the work, including (but not limited to) purchase of: domain names, hosting, special fonts, image licenses and specialist software. I will always make you aware of additional expenses before items are purchased.

Invoices will be issued for payment, and are due within 14 days of receipt.

Client Review:

You will be provided with an opportunity to review the appearance and content of the website during the design phase, and again once the overall website development is completed. At the completion of the project, it will be assumed that the site has been approved and accepted unless you notify me within 14 days of the site being made available to you.

Turnaround Time & Content Provision:

I will make every effort to meet the agreed completion date. If for any reason it becomes clear that the date will not be met, I will notify you as early as possible.

During the project you will be required to provide website content, such as text, images, video and sound files, and any relevant background information as agreed in the project specification.

By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you agree to provide all information in advance or by pre-agreed deadlines. On any occasion where progress cannot be made with the work because I have not been given the required information in the agreed timeframe, and work is delayed as a result, I reserve the right to impose a surcharge of up to 25% of the cost of the project. This is because, as a small business, I rely on meeting deadlines in order to remain efficient, and may be rejecting offers of work to ensure that your project is completed as arranged.

Any requests for changes to the specification after the specification has been agreed must be made in writing. These may affect the completion date and may also incur an additional charge. I will provide a quote for any changes to the project and, if agreed, will invoice for those changes as an interim charge.

A note on content provision:

  • Text content must be provided as a word or email document.
  • Images, logos etc must be high quality or optimised for web-use (as agreed in the project specification), and delivered in jpeg, png or svg format.
  • Content must be clearly labelled as to which page or feature it is intended for.

Browser & mobile compatibility:

I make every effort to ensure websites are designed to be viewed by the majority of visitors. Websites are designed to work with the most popular current browsers (for example Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge etc), however I cannot guarantee correct functionality with all browser software across different operating systems. If you need further browser support, this should be discussed at the start of the project.

I cannot accept responsibility for web pages that do not display properly in new versions of browsers released after the website has been designed and released to you.

Project completion:

I ask for payment of the outstanding project cost within 14 days of receipt of the invoice once the website project is completed.

Once payment has been received the website will be released to your control.

You  will be issued with a project manual tailored to your website, and training to manage it will also be provided as arranged in the project specification.

I cannot accept responsibility for any additions, modifications or alterations made to the website by you, your staff or a third party once the website project is complete.
